Bringing Dreams, Aspirations, and Imagination to Life
IC Spencer was born in Glen Cove, NY and graduated from Central Islip Senior High School in Central Islip, NY. She went on to receive her Bachelor's Degree in Management from Johnson & Wales College, in Providence, RI.
She came from a big family household where there was never a dull moment. Her father was born in Oyster Bay, New York. Her mother, born in Glen Cove, New York, was one of the best cooks she knew, and she loved it when her mother and father hosted the family holiday feasts, which included families from both sides.
IC Spencer has always been intrigued by different families’ dynamics, wondering why people cut from the same cloth are so different, which was a factor that contributed to the creation of her book “Glue”.
Prior to and after her mother’s passing, there were circumstances that led to anger, hatred, disbelief, and pain. She first started writing as a form of therapy. No characters were involved; it was just her, her feelings, and pen and paper. The more she wrote, the less anger she felt, the less pain resided in her heart, and less hatred she recognized in her soul.
IC Spencer’s grandfather was a Deacon of the church and she remembers his words very clearly: “You should never hate anyone or have hate in your heart, because it will consume you.” She eventually changed the narrative and used all the emotions she felt to create some of her characters, both good and evil. She modeled her main character, Diana, after her mother. Diana has many qualities that IC witnessed in her mom, including her non-judgmental outlook, her ability to see the good in everyone, and her consistency in putting her family above all else.
She has memories from childhood of visiting different churches with her grandmother & grandfather and meeting some of the Pastor's daughters at those churches, which was an eye-opening experience for her and helped her develop the Jones sisters.
IC Spencer is always laughing and believes it’s the best medicine. She remembers what her mother always said..."You have to find the humor in everything.”
Most excitingly, thanks to Lynda Bannister (owner of “The Bannister Vault” and daughter of Constance Bannister, who was known as “The world-famous baby photographer"), IC Spencer learned she was one of the Bannister Babies in a calendar created by African American civil and women's rights activist Dorothy Height, along with Constance Bannister. The Calendar was for a fundraiser to raise money for the Mary Mcleod Bethune Memorial. The monument is the first statue erected on public land in Washington, D.C. to honor an African American and a woman.
She was also in an ad featured in Ebony Magazine. IC Spencer now resides in Maryland with her husband Timothy and daughter Bryanna.
Embark on a journey into the intricate tapestry of familial dynamics with "Glue," an enchanting novel by IC Spencer.
